The nest boxes are now kicking off. Although 29 of the 31 checked down at the reservoir on Friday were empty things have started to happen since. A walk down the road to check boxes only erected two weeks ago gave six nests from 14 boxes. My gut feeling is that four of these are Blue Tits, 1 Great Tit and the last I have no idea. Why do I think its Great Tit? - because the lining of sheep's wool and horse hair is a bit of a mess.
A Mute Swan is nesting at work, two attempts to see the contents have failed. First time she wouldn't lift herself, on Monday when I tried again the male was standing guard.
At the moment I'm thinking about how to approach nest recording - do I continue to play the numbers game or specialise on Sedge Warblers.
