Rings and the Garden

A quick spell on the coast for the Fulmar chicks saw that only one chick has fledged since last weekend so I'll probably check again mid week.

On the Hayle estuary two colour ringed Herring Gull were found this morning, one that is possibly Paul Veron's in Guernsey (white 3KC1) and another of Mark Grantham's local birds (blue W195).

Back at home and a total of 25 species were recorded for Garden Birdwatch this week including the first record of Common Darter, the first Painted Lady of the year, a record 15 Red Admiral beating the previous peak count of 8 and a record number of bats (4) albeit them unidentified. For comparison on Garden Birdwatch I have included the same period going back over 5 yrs. Not sure if it was the provision of mealworms but check out the number of Starling in 2014......
